10 Best Honeymoon Destination Ideas From Perth, Western Australia
Whether you’re dreaming of overwater villas in the Maldives, wine tasting through South Africa, tropical island escapes, or a romantic European summer, your honeymoon should feel like the ultimate exhale after wedding planning.
These are some of my favourite honeymoon destinations from Perth — a mix of luxury stays, adventurous bucket-list experiences, and places that genuinely feel unforgettable.
Some are relaxing. Some are wild. Some are once-in-a-lifetime splurges.
All are honeymoon-worthy.
1. Delaire Graff Estate — Stellenbosch, South Africa
Great for: Wine lovers, luxury stays & mountain views
Just outside Cape Town, Stellenbosch is home to some of the world’s best wineries, rolling vineyards, and beautifully manicured estates.
Delaire Graff feels like something out of a movie:
- luxury suites overlooking vineyards
- incredible restaurants
- spa experiences
- world-class wine tasting
South Africa is also surprisingly affordable once you arrive compared to many European honeymoon destinations.
I have been here a few times, once during our South African wedding trip and it’s always a winner. While you’re there you have to also visit Babylonstoren not far away.
2. Eichardt’s Penthouse — Queenstown, New Zealand
Great for: Adventure honeymoons & cosy luxury
Queenstown somehow manages to feel adventurous and romantic at the same time.
I have photographed many weddings here and it’s my favourite hotel in the South Island.
Depending on the season, you can:
- snowboard or heli-ski
- bungee jump
- do the Shotover Jet
- hike incredible mountain trails
- soak at Onsen Hot Pools overlooking the river
Eichardt’s has some of the best lake views in town and is perfectly positioned for exploring.

3. LUX* South Ari Atoll — Maldives
LUX* South Ari Atoll
Great for: Barefoot luxury & complete relaxation
The Maldives honeymoon dream.
I visited for a wedding and you can pretty much walk the whole island. Being small meant if felt so secluded.
Think:
- overwater villas
- crystal-clear water
- snorkelling with whale sharks
- floating breakfasts
- private decks over the ocean
LUX* South Ari Atoll balances luxury with a relaxed atmosphere beautifully.
Ideal if your honeymoon plan is:
eat, swim, sleep, repeat.

4. Cappadocia, Turkey
Cappadocia
Great for: Hot air balloons & surreal landscapes
Possibly one of the most magical places I’ve ever visited.
Watching hundreds of hot air balloons rise at sunrise across the valleys feels genuinely surreal.
Highlights include:
- cave hotels
- rooftop breakfasts
- incredible Turkish food
- dramatic landscapes unlike anywhere else
Safety situations can change over time, so definitely do your own research before booking.

5. Cocos Keeling Islands
Cocos (Keeling) Islands
A part of WA that many in Perth have never heard of, Cocos is somewhere I almost don’t want to include and keep as my little secret, but if you’re reading this I count you as a close friend who I’m happy to share this secret with!
We visited during lockdown for our babymoon and it was absolute paradise.
Tiny island energy, crystal-clear water, almost no crowds — it felt worlds away from reality.
Don’t forget your snorkels!

6. Kingston & Tinyeleti Treehouses — Sabi Sands, South Africa
Sabi Sands Game Reserve
Great for: Luxury safari experiences
Honestly… no words. Okay i’ve never been here but it looks incredible if you want to splurge and have never been to Africa!
Luxury safari honeymoons are unforgettable, and these treehouse stays feel wildly special.
Imagine:
- outdoor baths under the stars
- candlelit dinners
- wildlife sounds all around you
- sunrise game drives
A honeymoon that feels adventurous, romantic, and completely different from everyday life.
7. Giraffe Manor — Kenya
Giraffe Manor
Kenya and Tanzania are two of my favourite spots in Africa!
Great for: Bucket-list safari honeymoons
One of the most iconic boutique hotels in the world.
Yes — the giraffes really do poke their heads through the windows during breakfast.
Most couples pair this with a longer Kenya or Tanzania safari itinerary, and honestly, it’s hard to imagine a more memorable honeymoon experience.
8. Six Senses Yao Noi — Thailand
Six Senses Yao Noi
Great for: Private pool villas, wellness & laid-back luxury
If your ideal honeymoon involves slowing down completely, Six Senses Yao Noi is one of the dreamiest stays in Thailand.
Tucked between Phuket and Krabi overlooking the dramatic limestone cliffs of Phang Nga Bay, this resort feels peaceful, private, and wildly romantic.
Think:
- private pool villas hidden in tropical greenery
- outdoor baths and open-air living
- sunrise breakfasts overlooking the bay
- long spa afternoons
- boat trips through hidden islands and lagoons
It has that barefoot luxury feeling Thailand does so well — relaxed, understated, but still incredibly special.
Perfect for couples wanting:
- luxury without the crowds
- wellness and relaxation
- nature mixed with high-end design
- a honeymoon that feels calm rather than hectic
9. Four Seasons Voavah — Maldives
Four Seasons Private Island Maldives at Voavah
Great for: Ultimate luxury & private island escapes
This is “once in a lifetime” level luxury.
A completely private UNESCO island experience with:
- private yacht
- private spa pavilion
- total exclusivity
- personalised everything
This is less honeymoon hotel… more billionaire fantasy island.
10. Head Over Hills — Knysna, South Africa
Head over Hills Luxury Retreat
Great for: Ocean views & relaxed luxury
One of the most underrated luxury honeymoon stays.
Perched dramatically above the coastline near Knysna, this place feels intimate, peaceful, and incredibly romantic.
I have stayed here twice and would definitely recommend visiting in Summer to make use of the infinity pool!

Bonus closer to home: Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia
Ningaloo Reef
Great for: Barefoot luxury, whale sharks & eco escapes
If your dream honeymoon involves turquoise water, luxury camping, and marine life, Ningaloo is hard to beat.
Sal Salis offers eco-luxury safari tents tucked between the beach and Cape Range National Park.
Spend your days:
- swimming with whale sharks
- spotting manta rays and humpback whales
- snorkelling straight off the beach
- exploring rugged canyons and coastlines
Then finish the day with sunset drinks on the sand.
Bonus in Australia`: The Whitsundays, Queensland
Whitsunday Islands
Great for: Tropical island romance
The Whitsundays are classic honeymoon territory for a reason.
Think:
- white silica sand beaches
- turquoise water
- catamarans and sailing days
- sunset cocktails
- luxury island stays
Hamilton Island is the perfect base for exploring the region.
And if you’re leaning luxury, qualia is one of Australia’s most iconic honeymoon stays.
Bonus: Positano, Italy
Positano
Great for: European summer romance & incredible food
Positano might honestly be one of my favourite places in all of Europe — and one of the most romantic destinations we’ve travelled to together.
Everything feels cinematic:
- colourful cliffside buildings
- glowing sunsets
- beach clubs and long Italian lunches
- tiny winding streets filled with restaurants and boutiques
One of the best ways to explore the Amalfi Coast is by Vespa — assuming you trust your husband’s driving skills enough.
And for accommodation, Le Sirenuse is iconic for a reason.
Where we went on our honeymoon
We started with a road trip from San Sebastián through surf towns and wine regions into Bordeaux and Paris.
Then we flew to Santorini and stayed at beautiful cliffside villas, including Lilium and Secret Santorini.
One thing I’d say about honeymoons: don’t feel pressured to do the “standard” option.
The best trips are usually the ones that feel most like you.
La tour d’Henri IV – Saint Emilion, France
Cheap experience in the heart of the wine region, Saint Emilion just outside of Bordeaux – a vibrant beautiful city with so much life.

A few honeymoon planning tips
Before booking:
- check passport expiry dates
- make sure bookings match passport names exactly
- consider flight fatigue from Perth
- mix adventure with relaxation if possible
And remember:
your honeymoon doesn’t need to be the most expensive trip of your life to be unforgettable.
