Botanical Beauty | Dunedin Botanic Gardens Wedding Shoot with Lola Varma Bridal
A few weeks before travelling to Dunedin for a wedding at Larnach Castle, I had the opportunity to collaborate with a group of talented local creatives on this editorial bridal shoot at the Dunedin Botanic Gardens.
Set within the city’s historic gardens and Edwardian glasshouse, the location immediately stood out for its atmosphere — lush, architectural, and softly romantic. The greenhouse in particular creates a beautiful contrast between structure and greenery, making it an ideal setting for a modern bridal editorial.
This shoot features one of my favourite Australian bridal labels, Lola Varma. Courtney and Phoebe, the designers behind the label, have quickly gained international recognition for their contemporary, minimal approach to bridalwear. I was especially drawn to the Romi Ensemble, which balances softness and structure in a way that feels both modern and effortless.
The concept was intentionally simple — allowing the textures of the gardens, the natural light, and the fluidity of the gown to lead the story. The Edwardian glasshouse became a natural focal point, offering a timeless, almost cinematic backdrop that elevated the entire series.
Dunedin’s Botanic Gardens are a hidden gem for bridal and engagement photography, offering a blend of curated landscapes, heritage architecture, and ever-changing seasonal colour.
