As we all navigate through this ‘uncertain time’, I feel for all the couples around the world having all their wedding plans postponed.
As heartbreaking as it is, we need to band together to keep everyone safe at this time.
If you need help navigating what to do next and how to postpone your wedding here are a few points to follow.
STAY CALM
Breathe.
Don’t freak out.
It’s heartbreaking, but not the end of the world.
We will all get through this and your day will be better than ever!
NOTIFY YOUR GUESTS
Firstly READ THIS POST on how to notify and reschedule guests.
It will help you navigate and organise everyone in one place before you start having people messaging you on every platform known to man.

FOR COUPLES: Template for couples to work on for vendor and venue availabilities.
TOUCH BASE WITH YOUR VENDORS ASAP
Send your vendors an email as soon as you can to ket them know what your plans are. Remembering that they probably have numerous other couples doing the same, please be kind and approach this from a place of positive thinking. You can use the templates here HERE.
BE FLEXIBLE WITH YOUR NEW WEDDING DATE
When it comes down to finding a new wedding date, please be mindful that your venue and all your vendors will be juggling their calendar for the end of 2020/ 21. Snagging another Saturday might not be possible, or financially viable for vendors, so consider Thursdays, Fridays or even Sunday-Wednesday. You’ll have better luck finding a date that suits all your first pick vendors, as well as your guests who might have a few other weddings shifted at this time. Most airlines are offering to transfer your flight credit within 12months of your original booking too, so keep this in mind for any guests travelling for your wedding.
COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR GUESTS
Once you have made the call on postponing the wedding, let your guests know straight away. Especially if you have guests traveling.
Use the ideas and email templates listed on this post to share the news fast.
VISIT YOUR CONTRACTS
Create an excel spreadsheet to find out how much you can transfer over to your new date (if available) with each vendor.
You may lose your deposits as that is generally towards all the work they have put in throughout the past year you have had them booked and your vendors need to stay afloat to be able to help you when the time comes for your new wedding date.
KNOW IT’S OKAY TO BE DISAPPOINTED
You have spent so much time planning this perfect day and I’m sure you are upset and may be angry. Know you aren’t alone. All the other couples out there, the whole wedding industry and the whole world are feeling with you. Reach out to friends, loved ones, and online groups to help chat things through.
PLAN SOMETHING ON YOUR ORIGINAL WEDDING DATE
Even if you are in Isolation – prepare that bottle of your favourite wine or bubbly, put on some music, hire a log cabin in the woods, dance, and feel blessed that you are still together and that you have each other to get through this all with!
