HOW TO CREATE A HOME OFFICE (that you’ll want to work in)

Making the switch to work from home?

Below are some ideas to creating a home office that you will actually want to be in.

LIGHT

My top tip is to find a space in the house with the best natural light.

Exposure to sunlight is thought to increase the brain’s release of a hormone called serotonin.

Serotonin is associated with boosting mood and helping a person feel calm and focused.

This, along with a few points below will help create an environment to stimulate the senses and

better prepare you to think clearly and get your creativity flowing.

Don’t have the luxury of picking the best room in the house?

If your office isn’t a Summery sleepout with large windows, try replacing your old orange lightbulbs with White Daylight energy saver ones.

STORAGE

Order storage online instead of dashing to the shops. Find some stylish buys and great furniture options at Ikea, go on-trend with Pottery Barn, or try Kmart and Officeworks for great low-cost storage options.

This is great for decluttering and minimising distractions.

I always feel so much better working in a clean minimal area.

Hide things as much as possible but make sure they are still easy to access.

Scroll Pinterest for some great home storage hacks, like hiding a printer in a pull-out drawer.

STYLE

Find your style and create a Pinterest board or collage to start creating your theme before purchasing items.

Along with storage I find that having multiple of the same items looks really good, but if you’re like me and like a million different things you can go for the eclectic look.

Use no nail sticky hooks from @bunnings or @woolworths_au

Pot plants not your thing? Fresh or dried flowers are a great way to make you feel good in your space.

Make sure to get a comfortable and ergonomic chair.

Okay so I don’t think ergonomic and aesthetic would ever be in the same sentence but I found this one from Ikea that is pretty great.

Consider propagating your favourite cuttings instead of buying new, and don’t overwater!

DETANGLE

Cords and cables can cause a headache and look untidy.

Use cable ties and Velcro strips to tidy up all your loose cables and cords.

SPACE SAVERS

Shelving is a great space saver whether it’s to help with office stationery in a small room or just to add character.
