QUEENSTOWN WEDDING TIPS/ TRICKS / INSPIRATION

‘BE FEARLESS IN THE PURSUIT OF WHAT SETS YOUR SOUL ON FIRE’

There is no denying Queenstown and the South Island of New Zealand have a special place in my heart.

My love for the mountains, Snow capped in winter and golden in summer, they make for the perfect backdrop!

It’s amazing how different Cecil peak can look covered in a blanket of white powder to the rocky outcrops and green shrubs present in the summer.

Some of my favourite venues include Eichardt’s Penthouse in Queenstown, Rippon Hall Winery in Wanaka and Elopements up top Cecil Peak

or pre/post wedding shoots in the Earnslaw Burn Glacier, Milford Sound or Roys Peak in Wanaka.

I hope these Q&A’s below answered all your questions!

ARE WE A GOOD FIT?

My ideal couples love each other so much it smacks you in the face when looking at their images and aren’t afraid to show it on the day! If you are wanting something a bit different and ready to stray from the norm of traditional weddings then you’re it. If you connect with my images and think your style and day you’re going to want to like me so I like to meet couples for an initial consult to make sure our personalities suit.

I’m a natural light photographer so only bring the flash out if it’s too dark to see you. Taking this into account I like to shoot location portraits the hour or two before sunset for the best light so tend not to shoot church weddings at 10am. I prefer golden fields to mowed green grass any day and love a good sparkler exit or surprise confetti cannon explosion to get the party started!

I’ve recently married myself so know what you are going through and happy to answer any questions you might have.

YIKES, WEDDINGS ARE EXPENSIVE!

I know, I found this out recently after planning my own! I am a true believer that photography is the most important service you will book on your wedding day and I believe my suited couples are those who value photography over any other service so are willing to invest in it properly to get the return. For my own wedding we wrote a list of the 5 things most important to us (photography, dress, food, drinks, honeymoon) and the 5 things we don’t care for (a cake, table settings/sit down dinner, video, shoes etc) and then took the budget off the 5 we didn’t think were us and either saved some dough or added it to the 5 things that meant a lot to us. I am confident that the product and service I offer is in line with what I charge and there is no way I can discount my products or service offered so when you invest in me you are getting my 100%. My ideal clients realise you only need to do what you want to do and nothing ‘ because you have to’. Ditch all those cliche wedding traditions and focus on what matters. Photos are the only thing you are left with years from now so invest wisely. I’m not saying you have to pick me either, I really want to serve my clients in the best way possible so if I feel that I know a photographer who will do a better job in line with your style and vibe I will no doubt refer you to them as I want you to get the best images possible that reflect who you are as a couple. Destination weddings are a huge responsibility so I take a lot of precautionary measures to protect your images whilst abroad.

HOW MANY HOURS COVERAGE DO WE NEED?

Included in my service is ‘Timeline Prep’, where I help you work out a plan.

As a guide I suggest a minimum of

Grooms Prep – 1 Hour

Brides Prep – 2 Hours

Pre-Ceremony Time – 30 Minutes

Ceremony Time – 30 Minutes civil or up to 2 hours for religious ceremonies

Congratulations and Family Photos – 30 Minutes

Locations Photos – 1-2 Hours – I like at least 1 hour per location. For destination weddings this can be pushed out to 3 hours or do an adventure session the day after the wedding!

Reception – 1-4 Hours depending on what is important to you

WHAT’S INCLUDED?

Everyone loves technology these days so I include a cute little wooden USB with all your beautifully retouched images. I am a huge believer that photos should be printed!

So much so that I throw in some luxurious fine art prints to show you some of my favourite images of your gorgeous self straight away, in your hand, as they should look.

ONLINE GALLERIES

This stylish gallery will be the best way to share all your images with friends and family from around the world who attended or sadly couldn’t be there. Up for at least 6 months, guests can view your gorgeous images, share them on social media and purchase all different kinds of prints because let’s be honest, they are also going to want to show the world!

HOW MANY IMAGES DO WE RECEIVE?

All weddings are different but roughly 50 or so images per hour of coverage. In saying this I don’t count images so you just get all the winners! I have a 8-10 week turnaround time, as good things take time, this is a rough estimate!

ARE IMAGES WATERMARKED?

NO WAY! That’s so 2000’s and lame.

SHOULD I GET A WEDDING ALBUM?

There’s nothing better than the feel of a luxurious Fine Art album. They are so pretty you will never want it to leave your hands. The thick pages, beautiful silk linen or leather bound covers, the smell, lay-flat pages, the arty design, they are seriously the best. The design is all done for you and you get to preview the artwork before it goes off to print with an option to make up to 10 alterations (photo swaps or removals) in one go within 7 days. Fine Art Albums will be an heirloom in your family for years to come. Deluxe albums are an option for the budget conscious. They are similar in appearance just with less fancy add-ons.

DO YOU SHOOT SOLO?

Yes! I’m practically a ninja. I shoot from all angles. I believe a photographer shouldn’t be noticed and prefer intimate weddings to big movie set productions so love to shoot solo (and preferably without 5 videographers and their annoying tripods where possible :p). I feel like second shooters are substandard and just there mainly for company so I don’t see the need in you paying for one so don’t include one. For large weddings over 200 people I might recommend one. If you would like a second shooter they are around $200/hour inclusive of the extra images and processing.

HOW DO I BOOK?

Because all great stories let you ‘Choose your own adventure’ I’ve done away with packages and let you create your own!

Once your venue is locked in make a time to come have a yarn then once you’re ready to book I just need a $1500AUD booking retainer and a signed contract to seal the deal! Quotes are valid for 7 days but bookings aren’t guaranteed until this is paid and agreement signed by both the couple and photographer. A second payment of $1500 is due within 6 months of the wedding date and the balance due 6 weeks prior. From then you will have an online portal which you can log into at any time to view and update details. I spend a lot of time trying to make the whole process as easy and enjoyable as possible!
