QUEENSTOWN WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER NEW ZEALAND – KATE DRENNAN PHOTOGRAPHY
There is no denying Queenstown and the South Island of New Zealand have a special place in my heart. So much so every time I return I pester my husband to move there with me. My love for the mountains which I think remind me of home and Cape Town, the friendly locals and the carefree travellers that roam the pedestrian dominant streets. Snow capped in winter and golden in summer the mountains make for the perfect backdrop to my travel prints and wedding photos any time of the year. It’s amazing how different Cecil peak can look covered in a blanket of white powder to the rocky outcrops and green shrubs present in the summer. From Queenstown up over the Crown Range to Wanaka, the quite yet vibrant little town. Some of my favourite venues include Rippon Hall and Winery in Wanaka, Elopements up top Cecil Peak or in the Earnslaw Burn Glacier to Eichardt’s Penthouse and Grille in Queenstown.
I hope these Q&A’s below answer all your questions! If not, or to book your special date just fill out my contact form here.

ARE WE A GOOD FIT?
My ideal couples are adventurous souls who love each other so much it smacks you in the face when looking at their images and aren’t afraid to show it on the day! If you are wanting something a bit different and ready to stray from the norm of traditional weddings then you’re it. Seeing as though you have landed on my New Zealand page we must have something in common – especially if you find the mountains calling. If you connect with my images and think your style and day you’re going to want to like me so I like to meet couples for an initial consult to make sure our personalities suit.
I’m a natural light photographer so only bring the flash out if it’s too dark to see you. Taking this into account I like to shoot location portraits the hour or two before sunset for the best light so tend not to shoot church weddings at 10am. I prefer golden fields to mowed green grass anyday and love a good sparkler exit or surprise confetti cannon explosion to get the party started!
I’ve recently married myself so know what you are going through and happy to answer any questions you might have.
HOW MANY HOURS COVERAGE DO WE NEED?
Included in my service is ‘Timeline Prep’, where I help you work out a plan.
As a guide I suggest a minimum of
Grooms Prep – 1 Hour
Brides Prep – 2 Hours
Pre-Ceremony Time – 30 Minutes
Ceremony Time – 30 Minutes civil or up to 2 hours for religious ceremonies
Congratulations and Family Photos – 30 Minutes
Locations Photos – 1-2 Hours – I like at least 1 hour per location
Reception – 1-4 Hours depending on what is important to you
Everyone loves technology these days so I include a cute little wooden USB with all your beautifully retouched images. I am a huge believer that photos should be printed! So much so that I throw in some luxurious fine art prints to show you some of my favourite images of your gorgeous self straight away, in your hand, as they should look.
I currently live in Perth so these usually need to be done within 2 days either before or after your wedding but get in touch and we can make a plan.
These are usually a 1 hour shoot at 1 or 2 locations.
Helicopter transport needs to be covered by the bride and groom but is returned with an extra hour or two free coverage as a thank you!
Photo Location Ideas:
Earnslaw Burn Glacier – If you take me here I will include the adventure session in any wedding coverage for just $200
Roys Peak, Mount Roy Wanaka
Coronet Peak – Kate’s Secret location that looks out of a movie set
The Remarkables Mountain – Half way up at the carpark there is a gorgeous pace to pull over and get some snaps
Wanaka Lupin Fields – At the right time of year
This stylish gallery will be the best way to share all your images with friends and family who attended or sadly couldn’t be there. Up for at least 6 months, guests can view your gorgeous images, share them on social media and purchase all different kinds of prints because let’s be honest, they are also going to want to show the world!
HOW MANY IMAGES DO WE RECEIVE?
All weddings are different but roughly 50 or so images per hour of coverage. In saying this I don’t count images so you just get all the winners! I have a 8-10 week turnaround time, as good things take time, this is a rough estimate!
ARE IMAGES WATERMARKED?
NO WAY! That’s so 2000’s and lame.
There’s nothing better than the feel of a luxurious Fine Art album. They are so pretty you will never want it to leave your hands. The thick pages, beautiful silk linen or leather-bound covers, the smell, lay-flat pages, the arty design, they are seriously the best. The design is all done for you and you get to preview the artwork before it goes off to print with an option to make up to 10 alterations (photo swaps or removals) in one go within 7 days. Fine Art Albums will be an heirloom in your family for years to come. Deluxe albums are an option for the budget conscious. They are similar in appearance just with less fancy add-ons.
DO YOU SHOOT SOLO?
Yes! I’m practically a ninja. I shoot from all angles. I believe a photographer shouldn’t be noticed and prefer intimate weddings to big movie set productions so love to shoot solo (and preferably without 5 videographers and their annoying tripods where possible :p).
HOW DO I BOOK?
Because all great stories let you ‘Choose your own adventure’ you can select one of my most popular collections or create your own!
Once your venue is locked in make a time to come have a yarn then once you’re ready to book I just need a AUD$1500 booking retainer and a signed contract to seal the deal! From then on you will have an online portal which you can log into at any time to view and update details. I spend a lot of time trying to make the whole process as easy and enjoyable as possible! For overseas weddings, the remainder payment is made up of AUD$1500 due 6 months prior to the wedding and the balance due 4 weeks prior to the wedding date.
